Joy..
THIS is yoga. JOY. An appropriate sentiment for the Christmas season surely? Many people’s favourite time of year. For some, a time of wonder and magic, family and friends and love. Undoubtedly a difficult, challenging and upsetting time for others.
The kind of joy I’m referring to isn’t a temporary high, dependent on time off work or felt only during the holiday season. But the more accessible, frequent and ‘smaller’ joy that we can often forget or take for granted.
The beauty of a pink and violet swathe of clouds across a sunset sky. The exquisite sensation of hands warming, wrapped around a fresh cup of tea in a favourite mug. The joy of feeling your alive body as you dance alone to a favourite song (you don’t do that? Why not??) Little things that we might think sound silly but are truly the EVERYTHING when it comes to a more constant happiness.
This is awareness. This is mindfulness. THIS is yoga.
