Acknowledgement..
THIS is yoga. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.
Acknowledgement - that days, weeks, things can just be a bit rubbish sometimes. And that you can feel sad. Let down by others. That you’re ‘failing’. Disappointed at or even despairing of life itself.
Yoga doesn’t make that all go away - sadly! But a regular, committed practice of mindfulness (regardless of whether you’re doing ‘yoga poses’ or not) brings us more in touch with ourselves, and our repeated thought patterns, perceptions and behaviours.
We see that we’re simply humans, with a busy thinking-mind, and we begin to realise and acknowledge what is superficial and fleeting, and what the deeper more constant truth beneath is. Our feelings - high and low - are valid, but we learn that since they are always temporary, they can’t define us.
Acknowledging this as fact gives us the clarity and consolation, not only that bad times pass but also maybe to even question what is a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ day…
To me, THIS is yoga.
